After Online Flak On Kaun Banega Crorepati Question,  Sony TV Apologises

New Delhi: After receiving flak on the internet over a question on popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati Sony TV has apologised over the issue. The matter started after Amitabh Bachchan-hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 asked a question that was asked to a contestant in the show. In the question, Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji was listed as answer option D as just Shivaji. The omitting of his title 'Chhatrapati' was compounded by the fact that options A, B, and C were listed with their titles - Maharana Pratap, Maharana Ranjit Singh, and Rana Sanga. The rage was also over that in the same question, Aurangzeb who regarded as emperor. "Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?"

Surrounded by Maharanas and an emperor, the lone Shivaji stands out unstyled and untitled - and sentiments, all too easily hurt these days, have been grievously wounded. Soon after this hashtags  #BoycottSonyTv, #Boycott_KBC_SonyTv and #Boycott_KBC_SonyTv started trending on Twitter.

Maharashtra BJP MLA Nitesh Rane on Friday demanded an apology from the entertainment giant for "disrespectful" reference to Shivaji Maharaj. Rane said that Kaun Banega Crorepati has insulted Shivaji Maharaj by referring him in first person singular form in a question and should tender apology at the earliest.

After the online rage, Sony TV apologised for the incident on Twitter and tagged Amitabh Bachhan. "There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday's KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11," the channel posted.
