New Delhi: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath meets the family of the cop  Subodh Kumar Singh, who was killed by a mob protesting cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr.

Subodh Kumar's wife, two sons and sister came to Yogi Adityanath's house for the meeting, which took place only after massive criticism after the Uttar Pradesh's chief minister did not mention the murder but focused more on cow slaughter at a security review meet.

After the meeting, the police chief spoke to the media. "The Chief Minister has told the family the government is with them and that all possible help will be extended to them," said Director General of police OP Singh.

The inspector's family says the administration has been soft on those involved in the killing.

The inspector and his team were trying to control protests after cow carcasses were found in a forest when a mob went out of control, attacked the policemen with stones and shot the officer dead.

When questioned about the details of arrests or police action, he said it was "not a fit occasion" to talk about investigations. “You are aware of the fact that an SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been formed in the case. We are in constant touch with them and will update as soon as they submit a report,” he said when asked by reporters.

Atul Garg, the UP minister said that a road leading to the inspector's village in Etah would be renamed after him. "A college will also be named after Subodh Kumar Singh to recognise and remember his courage," Mr Garg said during the briefing.

Shreya, the older son of Inspector Singh  was handed the mic, and he said: "(Yogi Adityanath) assured us we will get justice and strictest possible action will be taken against the accused."

The inspector's sister had alleged earlier that Yogi Adityanath was all about "cows, cows, cows" but was not taking action against the killers.

On Monday, Subodh Kumar Singh and his team were trying to control protests after cow carcasses were found in a forest when a mob went out of control, attacked the policemen with stones and shot the officer dead.

The chief minister faced a lot of criticism by opposition parties for attending a sound-and-light show at his home-base Gorakhpur later that evening, and a kabaddi event the next morning. A security review meeting took place only on Tuesday night, hours before the Chief Minister flew down to Telangana to campaign for the BJP for elections tomorrow.

The Uttar Pradesh's chief minister had ordered at the meeting to make immediate arrests for cow slaughter, but reportedly said nothing on the murder of the police officer. After a huge condemnation on social media, Yogi Adityanath finally declared through his office that he would meet Subodh Kumar Singh's family.

Yogesh Raj, the activist of Bajrang Dal activist who had complained about cow slaughter is the main accused in the case. The main accused remains missing. However, Mr Raj had put out a WhatsApp video claiming he was not part of the mob and was not involved in the killing.
