New Delhi: Union health minister Harsh Vardhan’s office said on Monday that the former Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley's condition has improved. The senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr Jaitley was admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, last Friday after complaining of breathlessness and uneasiness, and is in the intensive care unit of the Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Centre of AIIMS.

The premier medical institute constituted a committee of doctors, headed by professor V.K. Bahl, head of cardiology department, AIIMS, to treat Jaitley.

In the second term of BJP-led-NDA government, Jaitley had opted out of public office, citing health reasons.

Jaitley had also written to Modi that he would not like to be part of the cabinet because of health challenges, but had offered to undertake informal work for the government and the BJP.

The former Finance Minister had earlier, undergone bariatric surgery to correct the weight he had gained because of a long-standing diabetic condition. In May 2018, he underwent renal transplant at AIIMS, as he had been suffering from a kidney ailment. In January, he had a surgery in the US for soft tissue cancer.
