Happy birthday Sourav Ganguly, Dada turns 46 today

New Delhi: Happy birthday Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India turned 46 today. 

Affectionately known as Dada, Sourav Ganguly is one of the finest players and captains in world cricket. 

Ganguly who was a left-handed batsman of greatest quality and a very-very handy right-arm medium pacer. He was titled the "God of the Off Side" for his immaculate strokeplay  through the covers and at the square of the wicket.

He lead India during its most successful exploits. Ganguly was named the captain at a difficult time, when Indian team was in the wake of the match fixing. He along with player like, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble, curated a team that was tough to beat at home and more than competitive overseas.

Dada made his ODI debut against West Indies in 1992 and Test Debut against England in 1996 at Lord's. He is the 8th highest run scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and was the 3rd batsman in history to cross the 10,000 run landmark, after Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam Ul Haq. He was ranked sixth in the list of greatest ODI batsman of all time, in 2002 by the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.

He is the co-owner of football club, Atlético de Kolkata, a franchise of the Indian Super League, which won the first season of ISL.

The Maharaja of cricket, Sourav Ganguly announced that he has decided not to play in next year's IPL and to retire from the game. A Century is Not Enough, his autobiography  was published in 2018.

The former Indian captain is a reciepient of CEAT Cricketer of the Year 1999 - 2000, Arjuna Award -1998 and Padma Shri - 2004.
