New Delhi: Delhi Police had to deploy 146 cops to catch two chain snatchers, who were involved in 21 snatching incidents in past few weeks. 

The operation lasted five days, during which the policemen took a briefing session from DCP (south) Romil Baaniya and coordinated with each other over wireless sets and WhatsApp, following which they identified the accused, Vineet Sharma, who was arrested from Mehrauli on Wednesday last week.

Police found out Vineet usually strikes in residential colonies that had a quick access to a main road. According to TOI, The police team spotted Verma and his associate after they had snatched a gold chain from  a woman on the Carriapa Marg. While the associate managed to escape, police did mange to catch Verma.

With his arrest, police claims to have recovered seven gold chains.

Vineet revealed that he and his associate used to snatch chains in Dwarka and Rohini districts, police said.

Earlier, a Kerela thief who stole gold ornaments felt so sorry about his crime, that he returned it two days later with an apology note.
