Kheda Villagers Have Been Risking Their Lives To Commute Everyday Through A Bridge

New Delhi: The villagers in Gujarat's Kheda have been risking their lives to commute every day for nearly two months through a bridge that has collapsed. The villagers say it is a key link in the area.

Even the children crossed the bridge everyday with the help of their parents on their way to school. News agency ANI posted a video, in which children can be seen with heavy school bags on their back are being transported across the piers of the bridge.

The villagers said that they have been appealing to the authorities to repair the broken bridge that connects Naika and Bherai villages.

News agency ANI was told by a local villager that, "If we don't use this bridge, we will have to travel a distance of 10 km instead of 1 km."

IK Patel, the collector of Kheda said on June 10, that the construction work will start soon. He said, "The construction work will be resumed immediately. Only due to rain the work of the bridge has not begun."
