New Delhi: While Japan tries to recover from the record rains that killed atleast 179 people, a miniature horse who survived deadly floods in Japan is winning everyone hearts. The nine-year-old horse named Leaf spent 3 days stranded on top of a house before aid workers spotted her on Monday as floodwaters receded.

Leaf had been a pet at an elderly care home in the town of Kurashki. The photos of the forlorn horse standing at the rooftop went viral on social media, providing a rare moment of levity after the country faced their worst weather-related disaster in over three decades.

Keiko Takashi of humanitrian aid group Peace winds Japan told that the relief workers "called the fire department asking for help to rescue her, but were told rescuers were tied up saving human lives."

Her organisation sent their staff to bring down the horse and her baby Earth, who were left behind by the panicked care home workers after the floods hit.

While talking to news agency AFP, Takashi said," Workers at the care facility had no other choice than to release animals as they had to flee immediately in the face of rapidly rising water."

Later that day, a resident saw a horse swimming through the floodwaters, she said.

Takashi told, the baby Earth did not survive the floods, but Leaf has been moved to a nearby farm and showered with attention.

According to the reports, she has been reunited with workers at the care home, who burst into tears when they found out the miracle mare had survived.
