New Delhi: 11 October 1942 Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan created the most wonderful creation of their life that is 'Amitabh Bachchan'. The legend was born in the year 1942 and this is his 76th birthday and the living legend of Indian cinema turns another year younger. One of the most loved actor of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan is no less than an inspiration for anyone. Amitabh Bachchan who has been given a name to reckon with, has given Bollywood many legendary performances to remember over the years but that just one of the many reasons the world loves him. 

Amitabh Bachchan made his film debut in 1969, as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome. His first acting role was as one of the seven protagonists in the film Saat Hindustani, directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and featuring Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali, Madhu and Jalal Agha. His acting career moved forward with movie Anand (1971) in which he was stared along with Rajesh Khanna. Then came Parwana in the year 1971 it self. After that his movie followed Bombay to Goa,  Zanjeer (1973),  Deewaar (1975),  Sholay (1975), then came Trishul, Kaala Patthar, Shakti, Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Chupke Chupke, and many other blockbusters that made Amitabh Bachchan a "Mahanayak" and world his fans. 

Amitabh did film of every genre and from comedy to romantic he played his character with full justification and devotion. Bachchan has worked as a playback singer, film producer and television presenter. He has hosted several seasons of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, India's version of the game show franchise, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. He also entered politics for a time in the 1980s. Amitabh is married to Jaya Bachchan and has two children Abhishek and Shweta. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is his daughter-in-law and has grand daughters Aradhya and Navya Naveli Nanda and a grandson Agastya Nanda.

Amitabh was awarded with Padma Shri in the year 1984, life time achievement in the year 1991, Padma Bhushan 2001, Padma Vibhushan 2015, and the list continues The Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian honour, Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007 for his exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond. 

Amitabh Bachchan also wrote books like  Soul Curry for you and me – An Empowering Philosophy That Can Enrich Your Life,  In the early 80s, Bachchan authorised the use of his likeness for the comic book character Supremo in a series titled The Adventures of Amitabh BachchanIn May 2014, La Trobe University in Australia named a Scholarship after Bachchan.

He was named "Hottest Vegetarian" by PETA India in 2012He won the title of "Asia's Sexiest Vegetarian" in a contest poll run by PETA Asia.
