New Delhi: During the opening of a Japanese culture centre in London, Prince William had an embarrasing moment when he had a mix up between China and Japan, as he asked his kids if they liked Chinese food. A Daily Mail correspondent shared a video on Twitter which shows  the Duke of Cambridge at a table with young children, enjoying a meal.

"Have you guys had much Chinese food?" he asks. He immediately realised his mistake and corrected himself with "Sorry, Japanese food."

Some people defended Prince William.

But for the most people, the blunder was unforgivable.

According to Daily Mail, the incident took place on Thursday. The Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso accompanied Prince William to the opening. At the event, he tried the traditional Japanese sake rice wine and ate salmon sashimi prepared specially by famed chef Akira Shimizu.

Further, it's not the first time that a British personality has confused the two countries. In July, Britain's foreign minister Jeremy Hunt made an awkward debut in China when he sought to curry favour with his hosts by mentioning his Chinese wife, but accidentally referred to her as "Japanese".
