Actor Nitish Bhardwaj To Play Krishna Again, After 30 Years
Nitish Bhardwaj will play Krishna on stage in a play called Chakravyuh directed by Atul Satya Koushik. The play, Chakravyuh, opening in New Delhi this weekend, will apply the questions and teachings from the epic Mahabharata to modern Life.
New Delhi: Actor Nitish Bhardwaj is all set to play Lord Krishna again, the role that made him famous. Mr. Bhardwaj, 56, played Krishna in BR Chopra's Mahabharata, which we used to enjoy on Doordarshan from 1988 to1990.
Now, almost after 30 years later, Nitish Bhardwaj will play Krishna on stage, in a play called Chakravyuh, directed by Atul Satya Koushik. The play, Chakravyuh, opening in New Delhi this weekend, will apply the questions and teachings from the epic Mahabharata to modern Life.
Nitish Bhardwaj said “I always believed that stories from Mahabharata are relevant to today's & Kalyug also.” He added that he extensively read literature and book to understand Krishna's character for the BR Chopra produced Mahabharata.
Mahabharata, directed by BR Chopra’s son Ravi, was one of the most popular TV show in the the golden age of Doordarshan and several actors made their successful careers with it including, Nitish Bhardwaj as Krishna, Mukesh as Bhishma and Roopa Ganguly as Draupadi.
Not just TV but Bollywood names were also included: Raj Babbar played Bharat, Goga Kapoor as Kans, Puneet Issar as Duryodhan, Kiran Juneja played Gangs and Debashree Roy was cast as Satywati. Dara Singh who played Hanuman in Ramayan maintained his character in Mahabharata too.
Nitish was last seen on the big screen in 2018 film Kedarnath and before that in 2016’s Mohenjodaro, starring Hrithik Roshan.
