New information about the design of Apple’s next Pro smartphones has emerged from China. They are rumored to feature “the thinnest display bezel ever.”
This year, Apple will experiment with the form factors of its iPhones, particularly with the 16 Pro models, which are expected to see some changes. For the first time, exterior dimensions and weight specifications have been leaked. These details come from two Chinese leakers who have been accurate in the past. Additionally, there are new details about the display bezels of the iPhone 16 Pro.
Both Devices Are Allegedly Heavier
The iPhone 16 Pro will not differ in thickness from the iPhone 15 Pro. However, its height will increase from 146.6 mm to 149.6 mm, and its width will be 71.45 mm compared to the previous 70.60 mm. The display diagonal will reportedly increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be 7 grams heavier than its predecessor.
For the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the thickness will slightly increase from 8.25 mm to 8.26 mm, while the height will go from 159.9 mm to 163 mm. The width is reported to be 77.58 mm, up from 76.70 mm. This will result in a display diagonal of 6.9 inches instead of 6.7 inches. The weight will increase by 4 grams.
World’s Thinnest Display Bezel?
Regarding the display bezel, Apple is reportedly working on a significant reduction. According to another leak from China, the bezel on the iPhone 16 Pro will be just 1.2 mm thick, down from 1.71 mm, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a bezel of 1.15 mm, compared to 1.55 mm on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
These would be the thinnest display bezels on the market. For comparison, the bezel on the iPhone 14 Pro was 2.15 mm thick. Apple is using new display production technology, including the so-called Border-Reduction-Structure process, which shrinks the circuits placed under the display. The new iPhone models are expected to be unveiled in September if Apple follows its usual schedule. Additionally, the new models are expected to feature improved cameras, faster 5G chips, and a new “Capture” button for quicker photo and video capturing. The buttons might also switch to solid-state technology, which was allegedly planned for earlier models
